THE MOST POPULAR CHILDREN'S BOOK OF ALL TIME 5-31-2026

 I was curious this morning about what is the most popular children's book of all time. I have done google searches on this topic in the past. This time I was rather surprised. The Little Prince written and illustrated by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry has sold over 200 million copies since it was published in 1943. The first Harry Potter book, The Sorcerer's Stone, has sold 120 million copies. The Hobbit has sold 100 million copies. I ave made miniature versions of all three books and they are available in my ebay store.

WALTER CRANE BABY'S AESOP MINIATURE BOOK

 I have become obsessed with Walter Crane's books lately. Now I am wondering if there is really any interest in them.  I also make a series of miniature books titled Pre-1900. Which means all of the books in that series were published before 1900. I don't include Walter Crane's books in that series because he wrote and or illustrated so many books. The illustrations Walter Crane drew or amazingly detailed. Some of the stories would be considered unfit for young children these days. Of course, the Brothers Grimm original versions of fairy tales are often way too violent or gory for today's children. One example is Cinderella. One of the stepsisters cuts off her big toe to fit into the slipper while the other stepsister slices off the back of her heel.  After the wedding of Cinderella and the Prince the stepmother and the stepsister are put into barrels that have had nails pounded into them and rolled down a hill. The Disney versions certainly left out these details. Just something to think about.

Back to Walter Crane. Today's offering is Baby's Own Aesop. A charming little book of Aesop's Tales illustrated in Walter Crane's own style.

Wow! Time got away from me!!!! MORE WALTER CRANE

I definitely lost track of time dealing with some family issues. But now I am back with Walter Crane. I did a lot of work with Walter Crane books years ago and enjoyed it immensely. My miniature versions of some of Walter Crane's books were quite popular for a while. After interest slowed down on his books, I moved on to other books. Recently I was looking at my Walter Crane files and fell in love with his books again. Walter Crane, Kate Greenaway and Randolph Caldicott were the best in children's books in their day.  I actually found some of Walter Crane's books in my files that I had not finished making into miniature books.  I am looking forward to seeing how they turn out. Right now, I am sharing one of his Sixpenny Toy Books with you.
